In the 2022 season, after two years, we again had the opportunity to present our racing car in a traditional Rollout.

The event took place at the Management Campus of Széchenyi István University on 25 May. The SZEmission (race car) was a great success, as the event was attended by many partners, university professors and alumni team members. In 2022, our team will compete in Netherlands from 31 May to 3 June, with the aim of reaching the podium. The Rollout was opened by Prof. Dr. habil István Lakatos, Head of the Department of Road and Railway Vehicles. The head of the department started his speech with a joke that the SI could be a measure of talented students per unit area.

“This year, after a two-year pause caused by the epidemic, the Shell Eco-Marathon will be held again, and will be the most important competition for the SZEmission racing vehicle.” – said Máté Miklós, team leader. The most important goal of the improvements was to reduce weight and consumption, which was effectively achieved thanks to the close cooperation of the engineering and electronics departments. Mechanical engineering representative Barnabás Fersztl presented the complete vehicle model to the audience, demonstrating the results of the drive cycle optimisation. A key development was the design and integration of a new engine into the system, which allows for more intensive acceleration than the previous drive systems. Furthermore, the development of the lower-level control for autonomous vehicle control and the finalisation of the sensor platform.” – said István Kecskeméti, Head of Electronics.

Our Autonomous Vehicles department has already completed the Shell Eco-marathon Autonomous Programming Competition in the spring, where they came 4th in the world ranking. “We want to use the period between the traditional and autonomous competition to test our developments as intensively as possible, so that we can finish this competition at the top of the ranking.” – emphasised Mátyás Mesics, representative of the Autonomous Vehicles Division. For this year’s race, the SZEmission has also been given a new look, with its striking yellow colour that is immediately noticeable on the race track. This will make it easy for all of our dear supporters, mentors and followers to find which car to cheer for in the race.

“We’re delighted to be able to benchmark our development against other teams after a gap of so many years. It’s important to underline that our achievements are not only our own, but also indirectly supported by our sponsors, who we would like to thank for their help.”
